Another thing about tribe, and any other chat/networking/social site, is that they seem to make really good icebreakers. Like they serve as a way to put yourself out there in a fairly safe environment and connect with others. Once I got to know people though I found tribe much less fulfilling. I started to wonder why I was talking in a very public and also very slow medium, when I could just pick up the phone. Sorry but for the most part getting togeather for coffee, walks, parties, or whatever feels better then sitting at home typing away to people I care about. It still has a place, particularly when I'm having trouble talking about something. I suppose if there where more new people that were active and different views being brought up I'd be more active.

i like tribe better then facebook too, the only time i ever go to facebook is when i'm hella bored, & when i get a message from someone that sends a message from F.B... Myspace is the place for me, mainly because most of my friends use myspace, & the last time i ever checked Facebook is 3 to 4 months ago...

I like them both, but they fill different needs for me. Facebook is good for connecting with old friends, and such. Its good for catching up. I hardly ever get on to Myspace

Tribe is better for discussion. It's better for connecting with new people, who share interests.

        what frank said.

it's really really hard to engage in an actual discussion on facebook. the "groups" are a joke - there's no way to conveniently access them, and they're filled with spam, and no one posts anything meaningful (that may say more for the groups i'm on than the general functionality across the board, but still...)

one thing i like about facebook more than tribe is that i can control who sees what a little better. if i want to put a blog out to six people only, i can do that, whereas on tribe, it's available EVERYONE (and it's googleable! Found THAT out the hard way!) or to your friends, which is okay, but sometimes I want to narrow it down even further. I can do that on Facebook.

As for coffee/walks/etc., that's great - when you live in the same town. It SUCKS when you don't. tribe is better for intimate (and i don't mean sexually intimate, although that's certainly prevalent here too) conversations than facebook is, especially when you CAN'T be in the same room with people in meatspace.

I have nearly 400 friends and "friends" on Facebook. I have 32 on tribe. tribe is...just a more intimate setting, and i like that.

That said, tribe is dying. One day soon we'll all try and log on and nothing will happen and nothing will happen for weeks and weeks and we'll all finally give up.
